We have been towing now with our new Cougar for several trips. I ran into a Ford dealer in Maryland at a campground and he said Ford builds in a 10% gap from what is listed to what the vehicle is actually capable of. If I have to replace my tranny, so be it. I only paid 14k for our Expy and no other 1/2 will tow what this does. For anyone who says be very afraid or something to the same effect needs to relax. After speaking with so many EXPERIENCED individuals about the Cougar-Expy set up and from towing for 10 years myself, I would recommend people tow this unit with the Expy. Thank you all for your input.

I know my Cougar x-lite is back there. However, I would definitely buy it again and tow it with our 2003 Expedition. Towing it with a tacoma will be no problem. Of course I just towed mine into a tele pole yesterday less than 50 feet from home.

Well,
Back from an 1100 mile trip with the new cougar. I have to say that I had no problems with towing this whatsoever. I am actually very surprised that I have little sway at all. I am using an equalizer hitch. I am glad that I listened to the majority of experienced rv'rs that told me it would be no problem. Thanks for everyone's advice.

I think the gears are standard on the 5.4 Expedition. I have been towing a 2004 27foot hornet about 5000lbs dry. I have not had a problem at all. I am using an equalizer hitch, and have had no sway at all. I am wondering if 2 more feet and 1100 more lbs will change much in the equation.

Can I tow a 2008 Cougar Lite 29 foot trailer 6140 dry weight with my 2003 Expedition?
I am rated at 8650 with the 5.4 engine and 4x4.
I am a little concerned about the weight of the trailer.

Make sure you caulk around the corners and areas where water can accumulate.
